Overall Responsibility

Implement the care and use of microphone equipment in rehearsals and performances.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare, dress, and maintain wireless microphones for rehearsals and performances as directed. 
  • Collaborate with fellow Microphone Dressers to make necessary adjustments to the wireless microphones as required by other productions in a given week. 
  • Generate a microphone plot for assigned productions in collaboration with the Sound Designer and Sound Assistant. 
  • Assist in the creation of the sound prompt script for assigned productions.
  • Assist with the load-in, load-out, and maintenance of the orchestra pit. 
  • Assist in the organization and storage of sound equipment. 
  • Attend all assigned sound work calls, rehearsals, and performances. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Sound Designer and Sound Assistant. 

Qualifications

  • Prior theatrical backstage experience required. Experience in sound operation and/or design a plus.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, efficiency, multi-tasking, and ability to prioritize and self-motivate.
  • Possess a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to take direction and see a task out to completion.
  • Excellent communication skills and collaborative attitude.
  • Remain calm under stress; deescalate when appropriate. 
  • Ability to work both independently and as a positive team member.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and timelines.
  • Ability to plan ahead and anticipate potential setbacks.

  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to handle and maneuver small pieces of electronic equipment.  
  • Ability to work and move in dimly lit areas.
  • Frequently required to use repetitive hand motions and to reach and bend. 
  • Ability to climb a ladder into and out of the orchestra pit.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, see, and hear.
