Job summary

The Director of Education oversees the educational activities of Broadway Sacramento and provides leadership and vision to the organization as a member of the Senior Staff.  

Summary of essential job functions

Administrative management

  • Designs, oversees, and evaluates educational programing, including camps, workshops, and classes;
  • Recruits, interviews, coordinates with department supervisors, evaluates and oversees the Internship and Professional Assistantship Program, working closely with American River College staff;
  • Oversees and evaluates Arts Alive, including staff and volunteers;
  • Oversees and evaluates the Assisted Arts programs open captioning, audio described, and sign interpreted performances, including staff, service providers, and volunteers;
  • Manages teaching artists and staff for all education programs and other special projects;
  • Oversees and creates content for marketing Education programs and educational guides and materials for Broadway At Music Circus;
  • Develops arts curricula and content for K-12+ and community engagement;
  • Writes monthly Board Reports and presents at Board meetings;
  • Writes pertinent grant content and final reports, administers, hires staff and coordinates grant program;
  • Determines budget allocations for all areas of responsibility and make recommendations to Chief Financial Officer for inclusion in the annual budget;
  • Manages and maintains Education’s annual budget, petty cash vouchers and all records of transactions;

Other General Duties

  • Trains, supervises and evaluates Education Assistants;
  • Meets with senior staff to report progress of ongoing projects and all pending and future program plans;
  • Coordinates with the Development Department regarding education resources used to seek corporate, grant and private member funding;
  • Represents Broadway Sacramento as a staff member, at public functions and internal functions i.e. board events etc.
  • Attends meetings and addresses groups such as the State Department of Education, County Office of Education, California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA), ARC, UCD, CSUS, Mondavi Center, regional school districts, Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, California Arts Council and arts organizations such as CETA, ETA, informs and plans with community groups about education programs

Education and Experience:

A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree in education, theater arts education, arts administration or a related field. Master’s Degree preferred.

  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience
  • Project management experience
  • Experience developing curricula
  • Prior teaching experience preferred

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Works primarily indoors in open office environment
  • Works regular hours; some evening and weekend hours are required
  • Occasional physical demands associated with carrying/moving materials and supplies, lift a maximum of 25 lbs
  • Individuals must be able to move freely about the work site
  • Individuals must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and driving record to travel to community partner sites
